Online Disability Awareness Training

Disability

Continued learning and lived experience of disability is at the heart of all we do. All of thinkBIGGER! trainers are disabled and from the industry itself, and so understand the particular challenges that are needed to encourage a good working environment.

  • Simple, practical and effective, mix and match across the following elements:

    INTRODUCTIONS
    • Introductions and results of any pre training survey/ polls
    • What constitutes a disability? (Equality Act, 2010)
    • The Medical versus Social Model of Disability
    • Barriers (perceived and actual) to disabled people in the television industry
    INTERVIEWS

Note: Can be adapted for Managers

    • Encouraging the Guaranteed Interview Scheme - and celebrating its use (this element would be tailor-made for managers who hire)
    • Making interviews a better experience
    • Reasonable adjustments - what the legislation means and examples of reasonable adjustments in the workplace
    WORKPLACE
    • Creating an inclusive workplace, appropriate language, employee responsibilities, workplace disability discrimination, legal responsibilities, further support
    • Reasonable adjustments - what the legislation means and examples of reasonable adjustments in the workplace
    • Access to Work -understanding this as key to a great experience for the candidate
    • Post Covid-19 workplace adjustments, what are we learning about working remotely? How might we apply flexible working in the future?
    LET’S TALK DISABILITY
    • Everyday conversations that become awkward, how to make mistakes
    • Examples of solutions using case studies & evidence how they were managed
    • Through research with key staff prior to training, we will tailor these case studies to each department from digital to accounts
